Civiel Review is authored by Callie M. Alaina Orford, but behind every successful publication is the support, insight, and expertise of those who contribute to its development. Although the research assistants and political advisers acknowledged here are not affiliated with Civiel Review itself, this page is dedicated to recognising and expressing my gratitude to those who have supported my work, both throughout my legal education and in the development of the articles published on this platform.
To my research assistants and all those who have offered their guidance, knowledge, and support: thank you. Your contributions have been invaluable to my academic development and the continued growth of Civiel Review.
Callie M. Alaina Orford, LLB, LLM & BPC
Founder & Author of Civiel ReviewI am the founder of Civiel Review, a legally trained professional with a particular interest in commercial law, legal analysis, and public affairs. Having completed my LLB, I am currently pursuing an LLM in Commercial Law before undertaking the Bar Training Course, with the long-term ambition of pursuing a judicial career.
My professional experience spans hospitality, commercial law, and human resources, giving me insight into both operational and corporate environments. These experiences inform my approach to legal scholarship, combining academic analysis with practical, real-world perspectives.
Through Civiel Review, I aim to promote independent legal and political commentary, grounded in critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, and a commitment to examining the relationship between law, commerce, and society.
Elizabeth Beck, PCC, FCIPD
Founder & CEO of AspiringLiz Beck is the founder and CEO of Aspiring, a consultancy specialising in human resources and employment law. She also serves as a business adviser on the Forbes Business Council. Beyond her professional achievements, she is my mother and, without question, one of the greatest influences on my academic development and approach to scholarly work.
Her guidance has taught me to approach complex issues with both analytical rigour and emotional intelligence, recognising when each perspective is most valuable. She has encouraged me to question assumptions, think critically, and challenge conventional perspectives rather than settle for predictable conclusions. These lessons have shaped not only the way I approach my research and writing, but also the way I engage with the world around me.
Her influence extends far beyond my academic work, and I remain deeply grateful for the example she has set and the perspective she continues to inspire in me.
Legal ProfessionalNorhan Yinga, LLB
Norhan Yinga was a fellow law student with me at university, a trusted adviser, and one of the most valued influences on my academic development. Alongside studying law, she serves as an adviser at Citizens Advice, bringing a practical understanding of legal issues and their implications for individuals and communities.
Norhan has been instrumental in the development of my work, regularly reviewing my writing, assisting with legal research, and challenging me to approach complex issues with greater precision and depth. In particular, she has been one of my closest intellectual sounding boards when critically analysing political theories, questioning established assumptions, and examining competing perspectives.
Beyond her academic contributions, Norhan's friendship, honesty, and willingness to challenge my thinking have been invaluable. I am deeply grateful for her continued support, not only in the work I publish through Civiel Review, but also in the intellectual curiosity and critical approach that underpin it.
Social Media InfluencerVictoria Hearn
Victoria Hearn is a close friend, social media influencer, and one of the most important sources of support in my life. As a mother of two, she has taught me more about compassion, patience, and the human experience than she may ever realise. With her children being my goddaughters, my relationship with her family has allowed me to embrace a maternal instinct I had long buried beneath my academic and professional ambitions.
Her family home has become a sanctuary, allowing me to step away from the commercial and legal frameworks through which I so often view the world and appreciate humanity in its simplest form: love, family, belonging, and care. Victoria reminds me that life extends far beyond analysis and ambition, and I am deeply grateful for the friendship, warmth, and perspective she and her family bring into my life.
